What we build

From small projects containing patios, paving and decking to larger projects including stonework, water features, planting and lighting we can offer an innovative solution to your entertaining and relaxing space. The secret is to ensure the correct balance and seamless transition between soft and hard areas.

Hard landscaping and paving

With so many materials, suppliers in the market and designs available, let us help you narrow it down and assure you get the optimum solution for your budget.

Cast concrete or natural stone, geometric or random, the right paving can be crucial to set off your garden achieving the ideal entertaining area or place to relax.

Timberwork

To balance the hard landscaping and planting, utilising timber, a natural material gives softness to a structure as well as height.

Timber can be used in many ways to enhance an area that ultimately weathers and blends in as any natural material will.

Features and lighting

A feature can be a pot or urn through to a large pond or water feature to a pizza oven or childrens play area. Choosing the best feature for the space available is done in close discussion with the client.

To further accentuate any feature or part of the garden lighting is used to ensure that different dimensions to the garden can be achieved through subtle illumination.

Soft landscaping and planting

The hard landscaping acts like the frame of a picture: the full effect is achieved with the balance of soft areas, lawns and planting.

We will develop a planting plan that is specific to your tastes whether traditional or structural and ensure through our nursery suppliers the highest quality plants are used to achieve your haven. Whether it is low maintenance, cottage garden or borders giving successional colour through the seasons, your tastes and budget can be met.

Two show gardens at Olive Grove

Alfresco Landscaping teamed up with Olive Grove Nurseries of Oundle to create 2 show gardens to underline our capability of design and construction. Through 2 small gardens we have underlined how you can utilize a relatively small space and create something beautiful.

The bare gravel plot beside the nursery polytunnels before the show gardens were built

The plot

Contemporary show garden with grey slate paving, hardwood faced planters and boulders

The Contemporary garden

Layered slate paving, hardwood faced planters and a mixture of Scottish cobbles and slate with large Glacial boulders as the focal stones.

Mediterranean show garden with honed sandstone paving, palms and a white bistro set

The Mediterranean garden

More muted honed sandstone paving with slate and more locally sourced aggregate and larger Limestone rocks. Utilising the palms and acers this is a peaceful scene that would fit any small garden.

The beauty of both of the gardens is that they are completely scalable and when combined with lawns, borders and walkways they can act as small pockets of a much larger scheme.

Having recently completed our extension just in time for winter, our plans were abruptly interrupted by the pandemic. Alfresco was my choice of installer based on past experience from friends. The job completed as promised and surpassed my expectations from the design stage. Courteous staff and highly experienced in their fields, their innovative approach when we came across a few stumbling block on the project was impressive, often giving me a recommended solution but very willing to ask for our input. Top team!

Al's team have been great. Al sent detailed briefs and quotes for the work and it was started and completed within the time frame. We are delighted with the finished project. All the men worked carefully and professionally, with respect for our home. The building work is of a very high standard and we were kept informed about deliveries and the whole process. Thought and imagination went into the finished work. We highly recommend Alfresco. (By the way....the men like cakes and tea and coffee!)

We have enjoyed Alfresco on a number of occasions since 2007. Firstly to redesign our garden and then a number of ‘adjustments’ over the years. The Team headed by Alistair are total professionals in all they do Their work is first class and we cannot recommend Alfresco highly enough.

A school pond, decking and bridge
We recently employed the services of Al Fresco Landscaping at my place of work where we required a full refurbishment of our pond and decking/bridge. After having been let down by another contractor we required an urgent quote and the works to proceed quickly once we had reached an agreeable figure. Al Fresco did not disappoint! From the outset I was hugely impressed by Alastair's knowledge and enthusiasm, and whilst the quote was higher than the previous quotes we had (although not by much to be fair) I felt instantly that they were the right people for the job. Work proceeded when we were told it would, and the guys that turned up to do the work were very professional and enthusiastic and despite some questionable weather works were carried out in accordance with the pre agreed schedule. They kept the work area as tidy and presentable as was possible to do so whilst works were underway, really important to us as we are a school and the pond is at the front of the main school entrance and works were done during term time with students coming and going. We ended up with a beautifully refurbished pond and decked area and bridge. I would wholeheartedly recommend Al Fresco based on the experience we had with them.

Alastair and the Alfresco team

Designer and Director Alastair Peat works with the premise that people deal with people which ensures that the Alfresco experience is one of enjoyment on both sides.

Alastair set up Alfresco Landscaping as his passion for gardening, plant care and construction had been a hobby for many years. Designing and constructing gardens for friends and family around other work gave the ideal background for the business.

Alastair graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Engineering and followed a career in project management through the petrochemical and power generation industries, honing his skills in supplier management, customer care, logistics and turning an idea into reality.

He stepped out of this field to set up Alfresco to enjoy the excitement of creating enjoyable spaces for people to relax and entertain in their own gardens. The level of repeat business and word of mouth recommendations underlines the quality of work and relationships built during the projects.

Our aim is to provide you with your ideal garden space in a professional and friendly manner with the quality and consideration with which Alfresco have become known.

Site waste

To dispose of site waste we only use skip companies that operate waste transfer stations where the skips are emptied, sorted and all available materials that can be recycled are separated resulting in less than 5% going to landfill.

Natural stone

For the natural stone supplies from overseas, we ensure that our suppliers operate an ethically sound supply chain to ensure that all workers are of an appropriate age and paid an appropriate wage.
